Border Collies Dog Breed

The Border Colie is a medium-sized herding dog that works as hard as he plays. He is very responsible, gentle, and generally thought to be the most intelligent domestic dog. Although initially developed to herd livestock, the Border Collie has begun to warm his way into different households as an adorable pet.

Although some believe the Border Collie goes by that name because it was created around the England and Scotland border. It is mostly speculated that its ancestral line began with a dog, Old Hemp, who lived in the medieval times. The history of the Border Collie started sometime around the 19th century. It wasn’t, however, recognized by the American Kennel Club until the year 1995.

Intelligent: Intelligence is the winning trait in this dog breed. They are said to be the most intelligent dog breed ever.
Playful: There is usually no dull moment around the Border Collie.
Energetic: There is boundless energy or stamina around the Border Collie. He is not one to tire quickly from work or any dog activity—so long as it’s fun!


PHYSICAL FEATURES

• The Border Collie is of average size. He stands at 18 to 22 inches and weighs from 26 to 44 pounds.
• His eyes are dark
• His long, athletic body is covered with a lush double coat, which could be either smooth or rough.
• Border Collies have different coat colors that include; black or red tricolor, blue or chocolate, among many others. However, the mostly seen color in Border Collies is the black tricolor, which is composed of black, tan, and white markings.


PERSONALITY AND BEHAVIOR

The Border Collie thrives on activity: As a typical working dog, the Border Collie would do tremendously well with regular exercise. It would seem that he has a lot of physical and mental energy to exhaust.

He is very trainable: As with most other working dogs, the Border Collie can be effectively managed with proper training and early socialization.
The Border Collie is Kid-friendly: Generally, Border Collies are amiable and calm. They are non-aggressive and affectionate with children of all ages. However, as with other dog breeds, adult supervision is recommended.

He may be Motion sensitive: Due to his herding heritage, the Border Collie may tend to go after moving objects like cars. This, however, can be regulated with proper training.

The Border Collie is not care-intensive as some other dog breeds. As a result, grooming your Border Collie is a simple task that can be made into a fun activity with your dog.

• Ensure you brush his double-coat once every week to discourage matting and remove shed hair
• Clean his ears regularly to remove dirt and other trapped harmful substances that can cause ear infections
• Bath him only when necessary
