The American Staffordshire Terrier belongs to a family of dogs called "the terrier group." It usually measures about 17 to 19 inches in height and 40 to 70 pounds in weight. Also, they are smart, kid-friendly, and often pleasant to be around.
They have a history dating back to the 18th and 19th centuries. During these times, dogs were bred majorly for fighting purposes. For fighting dogs to stand a better chance against a bear (or bull), breeders combined certain desirable traits in different breeds. This period saw the emergence of species such as the Bull Terrier and American Staffordshire Terrier. Also, specific characteristics observed in the American Staffordshire Terrier breed suggest it is a mixed breed from ancient Bulldogs and Terrier ancestors.
