FACTS ABOUT THE SHIBA INU DOG BREED

Shiba Inu Dog Breed

The Shiba Inu is a small-sized dog breed that had its hunting history in Japan. At first glance, one would think he’s a fox or a Teddy Bear with his thick coat, erect ears, and curly tail. But he isn’t. Shibas are the smallest (while Akitas are the largest) of the six Japan dog breeds of Spitz origin. He is an independent and intelligent dog with a spirited personality.

Busy people and new dog owners would mainly fall in love with this cat-like puppy because he’s a clean one who looks after himself. That and the fact that he can tolerate being left alone make the Shiba an excellent family companion whose fame is fast rising far beyond Japan and the United States.

PERSONALITY AND BEHAVIOR

The Shiba Inu is a brilliant dog that is so easy to train. Although, due to his independent nature, he may sometimes be strong-willed. However, all he requires is a consistent and patient handler who would make training fun and offer a reward for every command he obeys.
Although he’s a small dog, the Shiba Inu needs plenty of space to move around—like a home with a fenced yard. He isn’t comfortable sitting on the couch all day. The Shiba Inu is a highly active dog who needs to burn sufficient energy to stay happy.
Due to his hunting heritage, the Shiba Inu will chase small animals like squirrels or rats. For this reason, he should always be leashed whenever he’s out for a walk.
The Shiba Inu is a great family companion who is affectionate and loyal. He is also good with children and can get along well with other dogs if adequately socialized and trained.
