FACTS ABOUT THE MINIATURE PINSCHER DOG BREED

Miniature Pinscher Dog Breed

The Miniature Pinscher, fondly called Min Pin, is a small dog breed that originated from Germany. Contrary to popular belief, the Miniature Pinscher is not a replica of the Doberman Pinscher.

He’s a compact, well-balanced and sturdy companion dog who will stay devoted and loyal to his family throughout his life. The Min Pin was recognized and categorized into the Toy Group by the American Kennel Club in 1929.

Standing strong and proud, the “king of the toys” looks every bit of the king that he is.

TEMPERAMENT OF THE MINIATURE PINSCHER

Alert; he is watchful and aware of his surroundings
Energetic; he does very well in dog activities like agility
Independent; he is assertive, with a mind of his own.

PHYSICAL FEATURES

• Well muscled body
• The Miniature Pinscher is a compact, sturdy and well-muscled canine that weighs from 8 to 10 pounds and stands at 10 to 12 ½ inches.
• He has straight legs, natural floppy ears (which may be cropped), and a long, slightly curved tail (that could be docked).
• The coat is short and glossy, without an undercoat, and available in a variety of solid colors and designs with tan markings.

PERSONALITY AND BEHAVIOR

• Despite his small size, the Miniature Pinscher is strong-willed and independent. Therefore, he’ll be needing an experienced handler as well as early training and socialization to keep him under control.
• Miniature Pinschers are always fearless, alert, and wary of strangers, which makes them excellent watchdogs.
• Because of their diminutive size, Miniature Pinschers are great apartment dwellers. They’ll get along with other pets and dogs, too, if correctly socialized.
• The Min Pin is vibrant and full of boundless energy. For a dog this size, his stamina is substantial. Therefore it is recommended that he is kept in a securely fenced yard and continuously entertained, so he doesn’t get bored.
• Min Pins have a high tendency to escape, so it’s essential to keep them on a leash whenever you’re outside the house.

SPECIAL CARES AND GROOMING

• Miniature Pinschers are an active breed, so effort must be given to their regular exercise. They need about 30 to 60 minutes of daily walks (on leash) or access to a secure yard to keep them physically stimulated.
• Miniature Pinschers are sensitive to cold, so endeavor to keep your Min Pin warm at all times—especially during cold weather.
• Grooming Min Pins is an easy feat. Their smooth short-coat only needs to be brushed once every week and occasionally washed to keep it healthy.
