My girlfriend has a Maine Coon kitten, and she loves the furry animal like her baby. I wish I could also cuddle the feline, but what about a widespread belief? Is Maine Coon Cat Breed Hypoallergenic?
I have a question. Are Maine Coons hypoallergenic, or only the allergy sufferers’ face problems with the breed? I am confused.

If you have just adopted a new feline or want to know how Maine Coons can be allergy-causing for some people, read till the end. We have got all covered about the maine coon cat orange and white.

Are Maine Coon Cats Hypoallergenic?

Maine Coons are loyal and playful cats. They love spending time with the owners, circling the legs, or sitting in the lap. If you are having a bad day, a short session with a Maine Coon will uplift your mood. WOW... That sounds great!

What Does Hypoallergenic Mean?

Before we dive deep, let’s briefly discuss the term "Hypoallergenic." The word hypoallergenic, usually used in the cosmetics industry, means any pet or item that causes minimum allergic reactions on the human body. When it comes to cats, none of them is hypoallergenic. Likewise, Maine Coons also cause allergies, but it depends on various factors. For example, pure Maine Coons have a lower tendency to spread the allergy, while the sufferer’s immunity level should also be kept in mind.

Cat Allergies

Sadly, people allergic to cats cannot fulfill their desire. If you already know these issues, then that is a good thing, but if it unveils after adopting a Maine Coon kitten, the separation would be quite painful. Some people leave them with a heavy heart; others compromise with the skin issues for the rest of their lives. Now that’s what we call love for the animal!

The reason behind Cat Allergies

If you also believe that the allergic reaction is due to the feline fur, you are wrong. The allergy-causing agents reside in your Maine Coon’s dead skin, also known as dander. Cat urine or saliva also carries allergens. While grooming, the saliva reacts with the dead skin, resulting in allergies for the owners.

Signs and Treatment of Cat Allergies

Swollen eyes, stuffy nose, coughing, sneezing, itchy throat, whee\zing, or rashes on different body parts are a few common indications of cat allergy. These symptoms vary, depending on how much you cuddle or stay in contact with its fur.
The best way to deal with allergic reactions is to prevent direct exposure. Cleaning all the areas and removing dander can be helpful. Sanitize after playing or giving the meals and never let them stay in your room for long. Bathing also aids in minimizing allergic reactions.

Do all Cats Carry Allergens?

Honestly, every cat causes allergy in one way or the other. However, some are hypoallergenic, which means they have less quantity of Fel d 1. The sebaceous glands and saliva produce a protein known as Fel d 1.
The Balinese and Siberian felines are touted to be hypoallergenic, but prevention is better than cure. It is important to know the cause and treatments in case of allergic reactions.

Is My Maine Coon Hypoallergenic?

The first love of many pet owners, Maine Coon cats, cannot be classified as hypoallergenic. They have the allergens that can be problematic for the owners. The shedding is so much that you just can’t avoid being a victim of skin allergies.
The amount of Fel d 1 produced by Maine Coons is enough to cause allergies. The hormone is good for the cat’s health, but not recommended for human beings.

Grooming and Bathing a Maine Coon Cat

As discussed in the treatments section, cleanliness is the only way to reduce the effects of allergens. Yes, you read that right. Experts believe that regular washing and grooming of a Maine Coon pet can get them closer to other hypoallergenic cats.
While bathing, don’t forget to cover your hands and use feline shampoos to get the best results. Using cat wipes or waterless shampoo also moistens the skin, lowering the allergy hazards for the owners.
Vet recommend to cut the hair of maine coon cat with lion cut style in winter.

Can I Buy a Maine Coon?

It is believed that male Maine Coons produce more allergy-causing proteins (Fel d 1) than female cats. So always prefer a female friend to your household. Moreover, neutered males show low levels of allergens than their non-castrated partners.
